Let It Be

Let it be. Paul McCartney’s words are soul-refreshing in this time. We can control very little in this world, and as humans, are extremely vulnerable creatures. Yet some of us have had so much go right that it pulls a veil over our thoughts, making us believe we are completely responsible for these successes. Still others believe they are the cause of all their bad times. Neither, of course, is entirely true.

While we maintain some agency over our life, the sheer number of variables that go into any single event are mind-boggling. The events in our lives are mostly out of our control and thus should be joyfully trusted to McCartney’s refrain.

If you want as much control as you can maintain over your temporary station, your mind is your refuge. Paulo Coelho wrote in The Alchemist, “If you want something; all the universe conspires in helping you achieve it.” This “universe” is actually you controlling your thoughts and deciphering between opportunities and distractions which come at you in proportion to your thoughts over time. That is your place of complete omnipotence. In your mind, you are king. The outside world will do as it pleases, yet with a clear and focused mind you will find your opportunities to move through the milieu to your desired outcomes and, perhaps, even outcomes you did not desire but are beyond your imagination to which you will be eternally grateful.

Your only challenge is to live your life in this world, preparing for all things through strength of mind and hardiness of spirit. Then as you end each day, let it be.
