Simplify

During crisis we lose our comfort and convenience. We panic because we have not trained ourselves to endure. As a country we have not had a major disruptive force since arguably World War II. We have become a society of accumulation, not scarcity.

Now is the time to change. Make a list of what you truly care about. Get rid of what you do not care about. The choice is simple, but the process is hard only because of what you have been conditioned to think. Simplification is enriching as it allows you to follow the pursuits of your heart. Simplicity leads to living a true life. So many times, we compromise ourselves to achieve something incongruent with our true self. This is unsustainable. Once compromising the sanctity of our soul becomes normal, losing track of our soul becomes possible. Once you lose this compass you are lost. You must cast off the yoke of lies and glamor to regain your love for yourself, for your spirit. This is simplicity, and in this simplicity are planted the seeds of Joy.

First steps:

  1. Spend a day without social media.
  2. Cast off one thing that has others may find valuable, something that you may only possess to impress others.
  3. Spend a minute or two or ten appreciate as simple joy in your life, i.e. first sip of coffee, a starry sky to stare at for a while, or a flower or tree you find particularly pleasing.
